Main Purpose of Role

• To work as an autonomous practitioner, within scope of practice, and deliver a range of quality clinical service meeting the clinical and commercial needs of the Services and clinical locations contracts
• To develop and promote a positive and dynamic image and culture to both internal and external stakeholders. At all times striving to reflect and encourage core value behaviours
• To develop and foster productive relationships with patients, local Consultants, GPs and other key stakeholders.

Key Tasks

• To utilise musculoskeletal expertise to function as a Senior Physiotherapist managing a varied clinical caseload within designated clinical environments
• Services delivered and Clinical interventions will vary depending on contract/site, patient/clients needs, and clinician experience/knowledge, but may include; assessments, advice, treatment, individual or group rehab, educational seminars, screening. Specifically for Occupational Physiotherapy clients, services may include carrying out risk assessments, workplace assessments and providing ergonomic advice.
• To conduct all clinical interventions and related actions in line with relevant professional standards, such as CSP, HPC, ACPOHE, ACPSM as well as Connect standards and policies and where applicable, contract parameters.
• To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and to maintain a contemporary record of such activity, in line with recommendations of CSP and HPC
• To attend timetabled in service training and mandatory training programme, as well as other Connect educational initiatives which may be outside of contracted time
• To share their knowledge and skills and contribute to the Connect in service training programme and other training, educational and promotional initiatives.
• To undertake Audit projects relevant to clinical role

Non Clinical
• Be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the services of the clinics in which they are placed ensuring services are delivered efficiently and with high levels of patient satisfaction
• Communicate regularly and appropriately with colleagues and staff within his/her areas/sites of practice.
• Be involved in regularly reviewing and updating the services, including the collation and presentation of basic statistical information regarding the delivery and outcomes of the service provided.
• There may be the opportunity to work with the management team in the
development and delivery of existing services provided to clients and to take responsibility for delegated tasks or attend specific meetings/events
• Utilise IT systems provided to track and record patient interactions, complete and submit service and HR data requirements, and review and respond to internal/external communications
• To provide support to a confined geographic area to field queries from the local team regarding safeguarding concerns and signpost staff to Safeguarding Supervisor or Local Authority as outlined in this policy
• To participate in the Multi-agency communication or MDT to share information pertaining to cases under discussion, providing feedback to relevant Health Professionals and participating in the discharge of the safety plan as appropriate to their role
• To demonstrate ability to identify concerns regarding child safeguarding, welfare and child protection and safeguarding of adults at risk
• To understand the processes for escalating concerns regarding child protection, welfare and safeguarding for their service or region
• To ensure that their own personal mandatory training is up to date including refresher training

Personal Profile

The role of a Senior MSK Physiotherapist is fundamentally about the consistent delivery of high quality clinical care of musculoskeletal conditions for the patients presenting in a range of settings. Expected to be positive, constructive and approachable and carry out tasks with fairness and integrity at all times.

The Senior MSK Physiotherapist will be expected to be well organised, conscientious and capable of managing the varied caseload of sometimes complex patients in a variety of clinical environments. An ability to work well under pressure as well as a commitment to CPD and a desire to facilitate improvement in both self and services are also key characteristics.

Excellent communication skills are vital to the role and the Senior MSK Physiotherapist must be able to communicate confidently and effectively with both patients, colleagues and clients using a variety of mediums.

The majority of clinical diaries and patient notes are administered electronically and as such MSK Physiotherapists are required to have good IT skills and be willing to embrace innovation and technological advances that improve service delivery
